lens based media

For this Prodject I am going to focus mainly on the past, I will place less emphasis on taking pictures and videos, but to edit and interprit ones that have been taken in previous years by myself and my family members, I will use different methods, styles and subtle touches to try to enhance the moods captured in these pictures from my childhood, I will also try to see how far these changes can go to change the mood of an image, for example see if you could make a birthday party seem cold, sad or uninviting. I can then guage how powerful these tools can be and maybe do some research into how they might be used everyday in magazines or adverts to mislead people.

this is an untouched picture of me and my sister on a boat in spain last year (she is looking at fish not feeling sea sick!)
me on a boat
here is a lightened and zoomed in version to see more of it.

normal bright
below is a version i have zoomed in on and tried to make seem older, softer and warmer. to do this i have zoomed in on the main content, changed the hue filter to make it more yellow, added a filter to make it grainy and another one to make it look slightly out of focus. i have also added a radial blur around the edge, i don't think this has really worked because it doesn't fit in with the traditional old fashioned ambient so i will remove that and try it in more modern effects.

here is the re-done picture without the blur -

then i added an edge to make it look like a torn piece of paper to really make it look traditional (however i do think this is a bit cheap and quite corny)
anyway here it is

jamie torn paper

there is a, somewhat easy, but i think, quite nice looking effect where you can take one picture and make a kind of hole in the shape of that picture through which you can see the original photo kinda complicated so here is a picture with a swirl used as the 'hole'
misty jamie
this looks very dark and kinda bat-man-esque and i think because most of the sky and white have been removed, this is really weird because it has made a family holiday seem really dire and scary.
i want to make the background white and the picture lighter and maybe slightly tinged blue to make it look colder (even though on the day it was 32 degrees in the shade) and see if that works.
misty cold jamie
this is done in photoshop and i have added a diffuse, frosty glow to a section of the picture, this looks really cold, bright and slightly hostile.I think this one especially has shown what can be done to the mood of a picture with effects and editing, because here i have made the originally quite dark picture much brighter naturally the colours turn duller on adding more light because they are now under-saturated and is almost black and white.
cold heads
this is an effect that doesn't really add much to it in any emotional sense but it happened by accident when i was playing around with colour settings and i thought it looked kinda cool.crazy substance abuse jamie
below are two pictures i tried to make colder and hotter but turned out much too strong, despite the obviously unrealistic effects i thought that they looked interesting and the red one made me think of a sunset or dusk scene (which i thought was interesting given that it was the middle of the day)
intence bluefiresunset
below is the same as the blue one above but to a much lesser extent i really like how it came out because if you haven't seen the original it is realistically bright and cold so is believable but still has the cooling effect
cold
